As we close in on the final week of our Feed the Need campaign, there are a few things we want to share, including a video that was shared with our secondary students to help them better understand the need we are trying to address. In addition to being a fundraising engine to fill the needs of the PCA Annual Eagle Fund, we believe that Feed the Need will help us train our students about the importance of serving others. As whole-hearted followers of Christ, we spur our students on to answer the call to care for and show mercy to others, specifically to those in need. This call comes from James 1:22 which says, “Be doers of the Word, and not hearers only…” Praying and serving others reflects the Father’s heart and is part of how we mirror His image in our world and community.
So, what are we to do with this challenge from James? As we close our Feed the Need campaign, Scripture tells us that the “need” still continues as the “poor are always with us” and we desire to part of kingdom impact.
Ask the Lord to comfort those who are afflicted. God is a very present help in time of need — let’s pray for those who are hungry, destitute, weary and need His peace. Each meal delivered through this program will include the gospel message of Christ. Pray for them to come to know the person of Jesus Christ. In addition, please pray that the hearts of our students will be impacted by this project.
Free t-shirts will be given to our students on Monday and Tuesday and need to be worn on Wednesday, November 7 for the All-School Packing Party. Our students will spend a portion of their day measuring, filling bags, packing meals, and boxing these 10,000 meals. The meals will be sent to hungry children in Bangladesh, with some meals being sent to children throughout the Detroit area.
Thanks to all who have already made a donation to Feed the Need. Your support allows PCA to continue our mission to educate and equip students for lives of learning, leadership, and service. Your donation also provides the means to purchase the 10,000 meals. Our very generous anonymous matching gift expires tonight, October 31, at midnight. Every dollar donated today will be doubled! Finally, in addition to the packing day, our students are being educated about this need. Many already understand as evidenced by the picture on this page. This picture was drawn, unprompted, by one of our 1st grade students. It is amazing to us that this 1st grade student captured the most important thing about packing these meals in this precious picture.
We want our students to think outside themselves and realize the needs of those around them. Time will be spent in classrooms this week sharing the heart of this project with our students. We thought you would like to see the video that has already been shared with our secondary students. We pray that they hear the message of this video and let it change their hearts.
