The following testimonial was written by PCA High School English & Speech Teacher, Patti Snyder…
I had the opportunity to travel with approximately 30 high school students to serve in the morning for the Detroit Rescue Mission and in the afternoon at the Greening of Detroit—Eastern Market Garden. Throughout the day, our students were eager to help, often asking what more they could do to serve at each location.
In the morning, we served at Detroit Rescue Mission, cleaning up the front and back yards of overgrowth and pruning back the landscaping, while some of our group worked to clean the inside of the house. In the afternoon, we worked at the Eastern Market Garden, helping to spread mulch throughout areas of the garden, clean up trash, and pull weeds.
One of the best parts of the day was one that was unscheduled—though God knew exactly how he would use our group that day! While finishing lunch, just before beginning our afternoon of work at the Eastern Market Garden, our students noticed that some workers and Detroit Police Officers were struggling to free a forklift that had sunken down into the mud. The students saw that there was a problem that they could help solve and asked if they could help. After receiving permission from the workers and the officer, about half of our group eagerly and joyfully ran across the road to help push the forklift to freedom! The workers and officer were so thrilled that our group had been there to help, even remarking that it was amazing how we had been there at the “right place and right time”—of course, as our group reflected, if you are looking, God will show you opportunities to show His love to others—it’s never a coincidence! Overall, we had a fabulous day serving the Lord in the city of Detroit!
